NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays announced that they have traded Cool Ray, the team mascot, to the Charleston Riverdogs for future considerations. The Riverdogs are the South Atlantic League affiliate of the New York Yankees and it is believed that the Stingrays will acquire Charlie the RiverDog (pictured) prior to “Dodge Baseball Night” on Saturday when South Carolina hosts Charlotte.
“For baseball night, we needed a mascot that was a bit more experienced on the diamond than Cool Ray,” said Stingrays president Taylor Lee. “Cool Ray would literally be a fish out of water on baseball night, so we needed to move him and pick up a baseball mascot.”
The Stingrays will wear pinstriped Riverdogs baseball uniforms for the game on Saturday and the uniforms will be auctioned off following the game.
The Riverdogs will be hosting a Stingrays Hockey Night during baseball season in which they will wear Stingrays baseball jerseys. The new voice of the Riverdogs, Josh Maurer will broadcast the hockey game, and the Stingrays voice, Darren Abbott will handle the broadcast duties during Stingrays hockey night at the Joe.
