Spencer Joins Stingrays

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays announced that defenseman Steve Spencer will be joining the team after spending training camp with Albany of the American Hockey League.

The Stingrays are the ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.

Selected in the ninth round (266th overall) by Nashville in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, the 23-year-old had two points (1g-1a) in 40 games with Albany in 2004-05 while also playing with the Stingrays where he had five points (1g-4a) and 68 penalty minutes in 19 regular season games and 12 penalty minutes in four Kelly Cup Playoff games.

In his first professional season in 2003-04, the 6-foot-3 and 220-pound Spencer had five assists and 119 penalty minutes in 35 regular season games and also played in seven playoff games with the Stingrays.
