Stanley Cup Champs Sign Former ECHL Defenseman Hnidy

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks announced that they have signed former ECHL defenseman Shane Hnidy.

The Augusta Lynx are the ECHL affiliate of the Ducks of the National Hockey League and the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League.

One of 10 players who played all or most of their games in the National Hockey League in 2003-04 who played in the ECHL in 2004-05, Hnidy helped Florida advance to the Kelly Cup Finals with four assists in 17 postseason games and had five points (1g-4a) in 19 regular season games.

Hnidy began his professional career with Baton Rouge of the ECHL in 1996-97 scoring 13 points (3g-10a) in 21 games with Baton Rouge before being called up to Saint John of the AHL where he scored 14 points (2g-12a) in 44 games.

The 31 year old played all 72 games for the Atlanta Thrashers in 2006-07 and had 12 points (5g-7a) and a plus-minus rating of +15, setting NHL season highs for games, goals, assists and plus-minus rating.

The 6-foot-2 and 210-pound defenseman has 37 points (9g-28a) and a plus-minus rating of +18 in 336 career NHL games with Ottawa, Nashville and Atlanta and has also played in 23 games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs scoring three points (2g-1a).
