BOISE, Idaho – The question was a legitimate one before the season started: Would Idaho Steelheads captain Marty Flichel be able to keep up?
After all, the ECHL continues to skew younger and younger. And all that youth adds up to more speed.
But the 33-year-old Flichel has answered any of those doubts, especially with the five-game scoring streak he has put together. And especially with his game Friday.
Flichel scored back-to-back goals in the second period and followed those up with a third score in the third period. His hat trick lifted the Steelheads to a 4-2 victory over the Alaska Aces in front of an announced crowd of 4,225 at Qwest Arena.
“I’m just trying to help and I got a couple bounces tonight,” Flichel said. “It’s nice just to contribute because the guys have been playing great.”
