Steelheads land pair of rookies

Boise, Idaho – Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham announced that the Idaho Steelheads have agreed to terms with rookie forward Quinn Smith and rookie defenseman Andrew Panzarella for the 2015-16 season.

The Steelheads are the ECHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League and the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League.

Smith finished his four-year career at Boston College last season as an alternate captain, scoring a collegiate career high with 14 points (7g-7a). The 23-year-old totaled 42 points (18g-24a) in 148 games for the Eagles, and ranks 48th all-time on the program’s all-time games played list. He won an NCAA National Championship in 2012.

Panzarella played four seasons at the University of North Dakota, recording ten points (2g-8a) in 77 games. He tallied four points (1g-3a) in nine games last season for North Dakota, and earned the program’s Coaches’ Unsung Hero Award. The 25-year-old racked up 654 penalty minutes over four seasons in the United States Hockey League prior to college. The defenseman played in two games at the end of last season for the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps.
