First Win On Road

BOISE, Idaho – Here’s a fact that might be tough for fans to stomach: Since their Kelly Cup-clinching victory in 2007, the Steelheads are 0-6 in playoff games.

The ECHL team will try to change that trend when it plays Game 3 of the West Division semifinals Wednesday night on the Victoria Salmon Kings’ home ice.

Idaho dropped the first two games of the series over the weekend at Qwest Arena.

“We just have to get that first win,” coach Derek Laxdal said. “Being down 2-0 isn’t that bad. We’ve just got to get that first win and make it a 2-1 series, and then tie it up.”

Laxdal said goalie Matt Climie will start again in Game 3. He said Climie has played well, but the team just needs to put some goals on the board after scoring one in the first two games.

“We can play with these guys,” Laxdal said. “We just haven’t had any puck luck. But at the same time, they’ve worked hard for what they’ve got. We just have to continue to work hard and we’ll be rewarded.”

Games 4 and 5 are scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Vancouver.
