Boise, Idaho – Head coach and director of hockey operations Hardy Sauter announced Wednesday afternoon that forward Chad Nehring and goaltender Jerry Kuhn have signed contracts with the Idaho Steelheads.
The Steelheads are the ECHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League and the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League.
Nehring competed for the Steelheads last week on an amateur tryout agreement. In three games, the rookie out of Lake Superior State had an assist. He is now on a standard player contract.
Kuhn, 25, joins the Steelheads from Western Michigan University where he just backstopped the Broncos to the round of 16 in the NCAA’s “Frozen Four” hockey tournament. Kuhn finished the season with a 2.35 goals-against average in 29 games for the Broncos. He was named the CCHA Goaltender of the Week on Feb. 28 following a 35-save shutout of Notre Dame, who is one of the four remaining teams in the “Frozen Four” tournament.
