BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors, ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Edmonton Oilers, announced today that they have signed center Gary Steffes.
Steffes, 26, enters his fourth professional season after playing three seasons with the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League and the Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League. Playing 169 games for Tulsa, the Grand Blanc, Mich. native scored 61 goals and added 68 assists for 129 points. In 2010-11, he was named to the CHL’s All-Rookie Team with 43 points (19g-24a) in 66 games and followed that up with back-to-back 20-plus goal seasons in 2011-12 and 2012-13.
Last season, after posting 34 points (20g-14a) in 37 games with Tulsa, Steffes earned his first call-up to the AHL with Lake Erie. In 16 games with the Monsters, the 6’2, 211 lbs. center had one goal and two assists for three points.
A 2012-13 nominee for the CHL’s Man of the Year Award, Steffes gives his time and talents to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). He works specifically with FCA Hockey, a group that travels the world sharing the gospel through hockey camps and clinics and recently traveled to Turkey, where he assisted in growing the game of hockey by building a foundation for a youth hockey program.
