Stingrays add scoring punch with signing of Sylvester

North Charleston, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays have agreed to terms with forward Cody Sylvester, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced.

The Stingrays are the ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Providence Bruins and Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.

Sylvester, 22, tied for third among ECHL rookies last season with 24 goals was 17th among first-year players with 44 points in 49 contests with the Wheeling Nailers. The two-time ECHL Player of the Week Award recipient also appeared in 17 games with the Nailers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, adding two goals.

Prior to turning pro, Sylvester skated five seasons of junior hockey with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League totaling 229 points (97g-132a) in 315 games. In 2012-13, the Kelowna, British Columbia native tied for ninth in the league with 41 points and was 10th with 90 points while claiming the WHL Humanitarian of the Year Doug Wickenheiser Trophy.
