Stingrays sign defenseman Nick Jones

North Charleston, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays, ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League, agreed to terms with defenseman Nick Jones, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced.

Jones split time with the Indy Fuel and the American Hockey League’s Worcester Sharks last season. With the Fuel, scored 24 points (7g-17a) and registered a plus-minus rating of +10 in 45 games. He also appeared in 14 games with Worcester, notching two assists.

The native of Cranberry, Pa. spent his NCAA career as a standout at Mercyhurst College for four seasons. During his senior year in 2013-14, Jones registered 33 points (10g-23a) in 41 games, earning him a spot on the Atlantic Hockey All-Conference First Team. He also claimed the conference’s Best Defenseman award.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Jones also appeared in two games with Worcester and four playoff games with the Ontario Reign following the conclusion of his NCAA career in 2014.
