Stingrays sign pair of rookie defensemen

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays, ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals, have added a pair of rookie defensemen to the roster. The club has agreed to terms with Evan Moore and Alex Pompeo, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Ryan Warsofsky announced.

Moore just completed a four-year NCAA career at Robert Morris University. The 24-year-old appeared in 152 collegiate games, notching 31 points (4g-27a). Moore served as an alternate captain for the Colonials and helped the club to back-to-back regular season conference titles in 2014-15 and 2015-16. He was a four-time member of the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team. The native of Grosse Point, Mich. signed with the Elmira Jackals on March 23 and appeared in one game last season, making his professional debut on March 26 versus Brampton.

Pompeo skated two seasons at the University of Southern Maine before moving to Salve Regina University for his final two seasons of collegiate hockey. In total, the Hingham, Mass. native posted 75 points (26g-49a) in 103 games. He led defensemen in scoring both seasons at Salve Regina, leading the Seahawks to an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Northeast championship. He was also a member of the All-ECAC Northeast First Team both seasons with the Seahawks. The 23-year-old signed with the Columbus Cottonmouths of the Southern Professional Hockey League late last season, skating in 10 games, with six points (2g-4a).
