NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays announced that they have signed defenseman Zach Tarkir and rookie defenseman Johan Kroll.
The Stingrays are the ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.
Selected in the fifth round (167th overall) by the New Jersey Devils in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, the 24-year-old Tarkir had 15 points (1g-14a) and 32 penalty minutes in 49 games with the Trenton Devils as a rookie in 2007-08. He also played in the AHL where he had five assists and two penalty minutes in 11 games for Lowell.
The 24-year-old Kroll played the last four seasons at Ohio State University where he had 27 points (5g-22a) and 177 penalty minutes in 153 games. He signed with Rochester of the AHL after completing his season in 2007-08 and had one assist and four penalty minutes in four games with the Americans.
