In a league short on glamour, there may be no more demanding job than an assistant coach on an ECHL team.
“It’s unforgiving, as hard as it gets,” said Matt Loughran, general manager of Greenville’s new ECHL team. “You have to be the cheerleader every day; you are the one who pumps everybody up, keeps the emotion high, carries out the orders from the head coach and does all the work without all the pay.”
After four years in that role as the assistant coach on the remarkably successful Cincinnati Cyclones, Dean Stork is moving up. He was officially introduced as head coach of the Greenville Road Warriors on Tuesday afternoon at the Bi-Lo Center.
One thing he won’t do as the head man is to give up the work that got him the job in the first place.
