TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo Storm announced that they have reached an affiliation agreement with the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League. The Cleveland Barons are the American Hockey League affiliate of the San Jose Sharks.
The Storm will continue to be the ECHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings of the NHL and Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL.
“First, our NHL affiliation with Detroit has been successful in bringinghigh profile players to Toledo and I look forward to a 14th seasonwith the Wings,” said Toledo vice president and general manager Mike Miller. “Second, San Jose and Cleveland are first-class organizations. I have had a long and friendly relationship with Sharks vice president and assistant general manager Wayne Thomas.”
“We are pleased to welcome the Toledo Storm into the Sharks organization,”said Thomas. “Being one of the most accomplished and successfulmembers in the ECHL, we fully expect the Storm to strengthen ourdevelopmental system. Also, when the need arises, it is a perfect pipelineto filter prospects into Cleveland from a geographic standpoint.”
