TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo Storm announced that they have traded forwards Sam Paolini, Maris Ziedins and Tyler Knight and defenseman Jason Jozsa to the Greenville Grrrowl in exchange for forwards Carl Mallette (pictured) and Kevin Bergin and defenseman Joey Martin.
“This is a deal done to improve our team for a run to the Kelly Cup Playoffs. As with any deal, it is always tough to part with players who have been here all year,” said Toledo head coach and director of player personnel Nick Vitucci. “Mallette gives us a terrific scorer and a natural centre while Bergin adds scoring and toughness and Martin is a first-year pro who brings toughness from a defensive defenseman.”
Selected as a starter for the American Conference in the ECHL All-Star Game, Mallette is third in the league with 65 points and tied for third in the league with 41 assists. In his first professional season in 2003-04, Mallette finished among the top five vote getters for ECHL Rookie of the Year after scoring 71 points (28g-43a) in 73 games, ranking fourth among league rookies in assists and points and fifth in goals.
