TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo Storm announced that left wing Scooter Smith has signed a player tryout agreement with the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League and that they have signed left wing Rick Judson (pictured).
On Saturday, Smith played in Portland’s 4-3 overtime win against Providence and Judson had two penalty minutes in the Storm’s 5-2 loss to Johnstown.
Smith is tied for third in the league with 12 assists and 19 points and is tied for fourth with two game-winning goals in 11 games. He was named CCM TACKS ECHL Player of the Month for October after tying for the league lead with two game-winning goals and 11 points (5g-6a) in five games. In 2004-05 with the Storm, the 25-year-old Smith had 39 points (13g-26a) in 41 regular season games and one assist in four Kelly Cup Playoff games. In his first full professional season in 2003-04 with Dayton, Reading and Trenton, the 5-foot-10 and 180-pound Smith had 30 points (11g-19a) in 67 games.
Judson, who is a Toledo native, has played 10 seasons for the Storm’s and is the team’s all-time leader with 197 goals, 244 assists, 441 points and 452 games. He became the all-time goals leader on February 25 and had 28 points (16g-12a) in 64 games in 2004-05.
