NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays announced that the Washington Capitals have assigned right wing Garret Stroshein to the Stingrays from Portland of the American Hockey League. South Carolina is the ECHL affiliate of Washington of the NHL and Portland of the AHL.
The Stingrays also announced that they have acquired right wing Cam McCaffrey from Las Vegas in exchange for future considerations and that the team has signed defensemen Kevin Knopp and Hugo Marchand, who are both expected to be available for Wednesday’s game against Pensacola.
Assigned on what is being termed a brief conditioning stint, Stroshein has 15 penalty minutes in four games with Portland.
The 6-7 and 245-pound Stroshein was one of five former ECHL players to make their NHL debut last season with the Capitals, finishing the season with 14 penalty minutes in three games with Washington. In 35 games with Portland in 2003-04, Stroshein had 73 penalty minutes and two points (1g-1a).
