Tassone returns to Jackals

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira Jackals announced that forward Matt Tassone has signed a Standard Player Contract for the 2014-15 season.

The Jackals are the ECHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League and the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.

Tassone, 24, rejoins the Jackals after a brief stint with the club during the 2012-13 season. In nine games with Elmira, Tassone notched six points (4g-2a) and added 10 penalty minutes.

This past year, the St. Albert, Alberta native logged 35 points (13g-22a) and 182 penalty minutes in 62 games with the Las Vegas Wranglers. Tassone split the 2012-13 season between the Arizona Sundogs and Wichita Thunder of the Central Hockey League, the Jackals and the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League. He spent the previous two seasons with the Ontario Reign and the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL. In 126 ECHL games, Tassone has potted 64 points (29-35a) and totaled 281 penalty minutes.

Prior to turning pro, Tassone played 187 games with the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League. He recorded 119 points (73g-46a) and 343 penalty minutes in four seasons with the Broncos. Tassone was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the sixth round (176th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
