Thomas sets ECHL record for most playoff games coached

Stockton Thunder head coach Matt Thomas coached his 95th postseason game on Tuesday in Game 3 of the Kelly Cup Finals, moving past 2009 ECHL Hall of Fame inductee John Brophy and into first place in ECHL history for most career playoff games coached.

Thomas is in his ninth year as a head coach in the ECHL, and has advanced to the Kelly Cup Playoffs each season (Atlantic City, 2005; Fresno, 2006-08 and Stockton, 2009-13). His nine career playoff appearances are tied for third all-time in League history.

He has 48 career wins in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, which is third all-time, trailing only Brophy (55) and Davis Payne (50).

In the regular season, Thomas is 342-225-80, ranking fifth in ECHL history in wins and sixth with 647 games coached.
