Veteran Hunt returns for seventh season

Stockton, Calif – The Stockton Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s New York Islanders and AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers, announced the signing of veteran captain and fan favorite Garet Hunt as player/assistant coach.

Hunt has served as team captain for the past two seasons. After he led his team to a berth in the Kelly Cup Finals in 2013, Hunt put up career highs with 14 goals, 22 assists and 36 points during the 2013-14 campaign.

While this season will mark his seventh in Stockton, it will be the first season that the Maple Ridge, British Columbia native will be involved as part of the coaching staff. Hunt currently is the club’s all-time leader in games played with 383, penalty minutes with 1,388 and ranks second all-time in points with 138, just 18 points behind Mike Lalonde.

Hunt is no stranger to Thunder fans as the forward has been voted as the “Fan Favorite” for all of his six previous seasons. Prior to becoming a Stockton staple, Hunt plied his trade with the WHL’s Vancouver Giants for parts of four seasons, winning junior hockey’s ultimate prize, the Memorial Cup, in 2007. It was in Vancouver that Hunt earned his reputation as a tough, gritty and dependable teammate having played 193 games and registering 41 points (16g-25a) and 542 penalty minutes.
