Veteran Rankin back with Walleye

Toledo, Ohio – The Toledo Walleye announced that Evan Rankin will return to the team for the 2015-16 season. Rankin is one of just two players to have over 100 career points in a Walleye sweater.

The Walleye are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Detroit Red Wings and the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.

Rankin last appeared in a Walleye uniform during the 2011-12 season when he had 18 points (10g-8a) in 15 games before finishing out the season with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League. In 143 total games with Toledo he has posted 130 points (65g-65a), second most in Walleye history.

The Portage, Mich. native spent most of the last few years in the AHL, along with a short stint in Europe this past season. Rankin had three points (2g-1a) with Kolner Haie of the DEL in Germany over 18 games before returning to Rochester for the final 32 games where he had 15 points (8g-7a).

Rankin has skated in 191 career AHL games tallying 108 points (55g-53a) with Manitoba, Grand Rapids, Syracuse and Rochester.

Prior to turning professional, Rankin spent four years at the University of Notre Dame where he had 41 points (20g-21a) in 143 games with the Irish including 19 points (8g-11a) during his senior season.
