Veteran winger Aliu signs with Condors

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – The Bakersfield Condors, ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers, announced that the team has signed veteran right wing Akim Aliu.

Aliu has seven games of National Hockey League experience with the Calgary Flames, including notching three points (2g-1a) in his first two games with the club. He appeared in 10 games this season with Rochester of the American Hockey League, recording three goals and adding an assist.

A second-round selection (46th overall) of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Aliu has tallied 71 points (44g-27a) in 231 career AHL games with Rochester, Hartford, Hamilton, Abbotsford, Peoria, Chicago and Rockford. The 25-year-old also has appeared in 39 career ECHL games with Toledo, Gwinnett and Colorado, tallying 40 points (19g-21a).

Aliu was born in Nigeria and spent his early childhood in Ukraine before moving to the Toronto area when he was 10. Prior to turning pro, he played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with Windsor, Sudbury and London, recording 167 points (76g-91a) in 205 games.
