Victoria Names Ward As Head Coach

VICTORIA, British Columbia – The Victoria Salmon Kings announced that they have hired former Trenton Titans head coach Troy Ward as head coach for the remainder of the season and that they have reassigned Bryan Maxwell to other duties with the hockey club.

Ward was named ECHL Coach of the Year and was selected to coach in the ECHL All-Star Game in 2000-01 after Trenton finished first in the league at 50-18-4 and advanced to the Kelly Cup Finals. The Titans led the league in wins, points and winning percentage (.722) while setting a league record for fewest goals allowed (164) and lowest goals-against average (2.28) while tying the records for most road wins (25) and shutouts (9).

Ward, who was senior vice president of hockey operations for the ECHL in 2001-02, has 18 years of coaching experience including three seasons as associate head coach for the University of Wisconsin and two and one half seasons as an assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League.
