Zapolski named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goalie of the Week


PRINCETON, N.J. – Ryan Zapolski of the South Carolina Stingrays is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Nov. 26-Dec. 2. He also won the award for the week ending March 11, 2012.


The 26-year-old went 2-0-0 with one shutout, a 1.00 goals-against average and a save percentage of .968 in two appearances last week.


Zapolski made 26 saves in a 3-2 win against Reading on Friday and followed that up with 34 saves in a 2-0 victory over Gwinnett on Saturday.


A native of Erie, Pa., Zapolski is 5-4-0 with one shutout, a 1.49 goals-against average and a save percentage of .948 in nine appearances with South Carolina this season. He also appeared in two games this season with Gwinnett, and leads the ECHL with a 1.58 goals-against average and a .943 save percentage.


Zapolski has appeared in 26 career ECHL games with South Carolina, Gwinnett, Toledo and Kalamazoo, posting an overall record of 15-8-1 with three shutouts, a 2.05 goals-against average and a save percentage of .928.


Prior to turning pro, Zapolski played four seasons at Mercyhurst College where he appeared in 109 games and went 48-43-11 with eight shutouts, a 2.77 goals-against average and a save percentage of .920.


Runners Up: Gerald Coleman, Alaska (3-0-0, 1.99 GAA, .917 save pct.) and Scott Darling, Wheeling (2-0-0, 2.00 GAA, .933 save pct.).
